Smackdown Vs Raw - Needed Changes for 2012

Smackdown Vs Raw - Needed Changes for 2012

Improvements in video games are mostly influenced by competition. THQ has a strong business relationship with Wrestling Entertainment, which serves as a downfall to gamers because they do not get the best product available. The NFL Madden series is very similar to SVR in this respect, and the product suffers as there is no competition.

One of the few things that I think SVR does really well is the backstage brawls. There is plenty of weapons to use and places to throw your opponent, including a couch or a soda machine. As a player, you always wish you could do more though. I would like to see being able to jump off of objects backstage like tables. Shouldn't there be a point that everything in the game can be used? Why have doors backstage that you cannot open? Even if there is nothing in that room throughout the entire game, it at least hides the restrictions in the game.

Alright, now to the core of the game, the in-game fighting. I think all gamers will have a problem with a 175 pound wrestler picking up the Big Show. They do make a weaker wrestler struggle to get Big Show up for a suplex, but he still is able to pick him up. Why not just have that small of wrestlers be incapable of suplexing that large of wrestlers? I think the change would be easy, but THQ would then have to decide how to balance the game so Big Show doesn't always win. How about make it if the superstar cannot suplex the opponent, he goes for the legs to try to take him down? If the wrestler cannot do it's finisher or signature on the outside of the ring, they game edits the move to something else. So instead of making the superstars being able to take down every wrestler without much difficulty, how about make it so instead of suplexing the opponent, he does like 3 or 4 running kicks to his legs to take him down? That would make me feel much better about the game I am playing when I see Rey Mysterio take out Big Show's legs, rather than suplexing him to the ground.

Something else that needs changing is allowing partners to interfere in moves as they are taking place. Shawn Michaels is setting up his finisher on his opponent which takes a few seconds and his partner just has to watch him get kicked right in the face. This change may be the most difficult change, because they would have to edit a partner counter to every move. As time consuming as that could be, it is something that would take the game to the next level. There should be more emphasis on the power of a team and make it very difficult to beat a team with great teamwork. Also, once you have this change implemented into the game, it will be able to used in future Wrestling Entertainment games as well.

As I think those other changes would be the most helpful to the game, I think a sweet subtle change would be to have tag team finishers. There is a point in the game where the game shows Triple H and Shawn Michaels using there finishers together when Michaels hit his Sweet Chin Music followed by Triple H's Pedigree, but it is not available for use in gameplay. The developers could have all kinds of fun trying to intertwine two finishers with each other to make an incredible tag team finisher. It seems like such an easy addition to the game and it would make tag team play much more exciting.

The mechanics of the game are in definite need. I hope they address the idea of an 175 pound superstar picking up a 500 pound giant. There are many options to fix this, but I believe my additions would really help this game stand out.
